Get ready to throw some serious shade—in the best way possible! Our "Throw Me Some Shade" Matcha is your passport to a world of smooth, vibrant green tea bliss.

Our matcha is sourced from the shaded fields of Shizuoka, Japan, and meticulously blended from three prized cultivars—Okumidori, Tsuyuhikari, and Asanoka. This results in a smooth, creamy matcha with a delicate balance of umami and sweetness.

Ingredients: Organic stone-milled green tea

Caffeine Content: While matcha contains caffeine, the levels can vary based on factors like growing conditions and preparation. On average, a single serving of matcha (about 1 teaspoon or 2 grams) contains roughly 30-40 milligrams of caffeine—less than a typical cup of coffee but enough to provide a gentle energy boost without the jitters.

Steeping instructions: Sift 2g of matcha into a bowl, then add 2-3 oz of 70-80°C (158-176°F) water, whisk smooth and frothy. To achieve a smooth and frothy matcha, use a bamboo whisk (chasen) to move the whisk in a back-and-forth motion, forming an "M" or "W" shape at the surface of the tea until a layer of fine bubbles forms (approx. 20 seconds).

What is Matcha? Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Unlike traditional tea preparation where leaves are steeped and discarded, matcha drinkers consume the whole tea leaf, enjoying its full spectrum of nutrients and antioxidants.

How It's Made:

  1. Shade-Grown: Matcha tea plants are shaded from sunlight for several weeks before harvest, boosting chlorophyll production and giving the leaves a vibrant green colour.

  2. Hand-Picked: Only the youngest, tenderest leaves are hand-picked to ensure quality and flavour.

  3. Steamed & Dried: After picking, the leaves are immediately steamed to prevent oxidation and preserve their fresh taste. They are then dried and aged in cold storage.

  4. Stone-Ground: The dried leaves, called tencha, are carefully ground into a fine powder using traditional granite stone mills. This process can take up to an hour to grind just 30 grams of matcha.
